EU investigation into Google demoting commercial media content... They lost SEO plot!
Surely, they are not having a go at Google for fighting ‘parasite SEO’. With this investigation they are literally siding with media companies that sell out their brands for profits.
Perhaps European Commission do not see what Google aims to stop - ‘site reputation abuse’, otherwise known as ‘parasite SEO’. This in fact a tactic where third-party content is published on a host site mainly because of that host’s already-established ranking signals. The goal is for the content to rank faster, better.
Are goverments able to regulate big tech?
It would be amazing if governments could effectively regulate big tech, but they always seem to be missing the point 😕
The European Commission might not be aware that many of the sites EU projects expire and end up as affiliate sites promoting unlicensed casinos. Or they simply choose to ignore this fact as well.
It all comes down to more power, visibility, monetisation - certainly not about quality control.
